Barbara Jean Ford
(nee O'Connell), age 87 and a longtime resident of Mendham, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Arden Courts in Whippany.
Born in Saint Louis, she had a career as a remarkably prolific and profound book writer.
Barbara grew up in Pittsburgh, graduated from Saint Louis University and later received a Master’s Degree in Elizabethan Literature from New York University.
She was a writer for the Museum of Natural History and then a Senior Editor for Science Digest Magazine for nine years before becoming an independent author of both fiction and non-fiction, adult and children’s books. Many of her 23 published books are available at local libraries.
Barbara was a member of the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship and also was a proud founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills.
For many years, Barbara could be found nearly every morning walking her beloved dogs on the numerous local trails in the Mendham/Chester area and then spending the afternoons writing her books. Truly she was spending her time doing what she wished to do.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Douglas Ford of Mendham and her sisters, Patricia O’Connell and Mary Jo O’Connell from Saint Louis and her niece Kate Zachar from Milwaukee.
