Louise Coleman Walton
passed away in her sleep on Saturday, January 20th at Care One Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was 101.
Born March 26, 1916 in Ada, Oklahoma, she lived in California, Massachusetts and England before settling in Cookstown, NJ where she lived for 40 years. She retired to Pine Bluff, Arkansas with her husband, Alonzo and lived there for 25 years before moving to Morristown with her daughter and son-in-law in 2012.
Louise split her time between homemaking and running a family business with her husband in Cookstown, NJ. She loved to travel and particularly enjoyed her times in England, France and yearly trips to Hilton Head, SC where she was often surrounded by four generations of family. Louise was passionate about learning and giving service. She went back to school for her GED when she was in her 60s and became a certified Red Cross swim teacher to children. A parishioner at AME Bethel in Morristown, Louise was a regular at the Cornerstone Senior Center at Morris View where she enjoyed sharing stories about her life experiences.
A devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she was predeceased by her husbands, Nathaniel in 1942 and Alonzo in 2008. Louise is survived by her daughter, Betty and son-in-law Joseph, her five grandchildren, Debra Sheard (Ricardo), Diana Penn (Harry), Derick Ford, Daniel Ford (Conshella), Dionne Kurtti (Dennis), 14 great-grandchildren, 9 great, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
