Deacon Melvin D. Burgette, Sr. of Dover, NJ, was born on January 31, 1940 to the late Reverend W. Fletcher Burgette and Ceola Parker Burgette. He grew up in Scranton, PA and was educated in the Lackawanna County school system.

Melvin Burgette was married to Sandra Ampey Burgette for 51 years.

Melvin Burgette worked for Komline-Sanderson Engineering Corporation, Peapack, NJ, for 30 years. After retirement, he worked part-time for Madison Senior Center, Madison, NJ, for a number of years.

Melvin Burgette was the Minister of Music at Union Baptist Church in Morristown, NJ for over 50 years. He also played for Calvary Baptist Church in East Orange, NJ, for over 25 years, and various other churches.

He was the proud father of one son, Melvin Burgette, Jr. (Noa) and daughter, Krista Burgette both of Maryland, and had two grandchildren Melvin, III and Noa Alexandra.
