Obituary

Loretta Hendrickson (Alexander) was born on July 9, 1935 to the late Alonso and Miami Alexander in Tuskegee, Alabama. She graduated from Macon County Training High School..

After graduating from High School she moved to Newark New Jersey. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Greystone Hospital for a number of years until she married the late H. DeWitt Hendrickson on September 1, 1957. They lived in Morristown, NJ for the rest of their lives. Of this union two children were born, Vanessa and Charles Hendrickson.

Loretta received her beautician’s license from Scott’s Beauty School in Newark, New Jersey and worked from home until her children were old enough to go to school. She then worked for many years as a community worker at the Human Resources - Anti Poverty Program on Martin Luther King Avenue in Morristown.  While at the Human Resources Agency, she studied for eight years at night at Fairleigh Dickenson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. She later worked for the Girl Scouts of America and retired in 1993. While retired, she worked for many years at the Board of Elections on election day at several locations in Morristown. She was especially honored to have worked at the polls during President Obama’s election and re-election. She also dedicated the rest of her life to ministry participation with the Missionaries, Golden Years Ministry and Knitting Club at Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown, NJ.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Emory Forte and Edgar Ellington. She leaves to mourn her two children, Vanessa and Charles, brother James Alexander, Racine, Wisconsin, sister Delores Johnson, Cleveland Ohio and sister Lola Thomas- Haliburton, Racine, Wisconsin and a host of precious nieces and nephews.
